Uniform Information
Uniform
We take great pride in our school and expect that our children are dressed in the correct uniform every day. We believe that this instils a sense of belonging as well as creating a purposeful atmosphere within school. We ask that parents support this by ensuring that the children have the correct uniform at all times and that this is smartly worn.
Uniform: Black or dark grey trousers, shorts, skirt (knee-length) or pinafore dress, white blouse/shirt/polo-shirt, dark brown Abbot’s Hall or plain sweatshirt/cardigan. Brown or yellow gingham dresses may be worn in the summer.
All children should wear sensible black shoes (not trainers), that are not canvas or open-toed. Black or grey socks should be worn. Trainer socks should not be worn. White socks may be worn with the gingham dresses in the summer.
Hair styles should be tidy and cut appropriately. A natural colour is required.
Long hair should be tied up - this is partly for health and safety concerns, but also to reduce the spread of head lice.
We do not allow headwear (other than hair bands and small bows) to be worn during class time or inside school buildings, except for religious or cultural reasons.
Abbot’s Hall School sweatshirts, cardigans, fleeces and bookbags are on sale from Inces, Ipswich Street, Stowmarket.
Non-logo items are supported as long as they are the school colour.
Second-hand uniform is available to purchase from the Friends of Abbot's.
Physical Education
Children should wear PE kit to school on the days they are timetabled and any time advised by their class teacher.
All children should wear black shorts and plain white t-shirts for PE. Children should have trainers for inside and outside lessons. Astro turf trainers and football boots are not permitted. Black, warm tracksuits will be needed in the colder weather and sun hats in the warm summer.
Jewellery and Other Items
Jewellery, rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets can be dangerous to both the wearer and other children during playtimes, PE, games or swimming and should not be worn to school other than for religious or cultural reasons.
Children with pierced ears may wear small studs, but these must be removed for all PE including swimming, clubs and active week. The school swimming service does not allow earrings to be worn. If parents are considering having their child’s ears pierced, the beginning of the summer holidays is advised to allow time for the ears to heal before returning to school in September. Please note that staff are not permitted to remove or replace children’s earrings. Children unable to remove and replace their own earrings will need to have them out on days when there is PE or swimming.
No tattoos, nail varnish or makeup.
Small watches may be worn but must be removed for PE. Smartwatches (devices that have games, text, phone, or camera capabilities) are NOT permitted.
Dressing for the Weather
Children should come to school dressed appropriately for all weathers, as we aim to get the children outside every day. They should have a coat with them in accordance with the weather forecast. In the summer, they should have a suitable cap/hat to protect them from the sun, and sun lotion should be applied prior to the school day as staff are unable to do this. During the colder months, in addition to an appropriate coat, please feel free to send your child with a warm hat, scarf and gloves.
