Governors

Welcome to the Governor page of Abbot’s Hall Primary School’s Website. Here you will find listed all the Governors and their individual areas of responsibility. We are all volunteers who have joined the Governing Body to try and give something back to the school community and support the school in our “critical friend” role to help ensure we meet the needs of the whole school community.  Some of us are parent governors and some are community or Local Authority governors and we come from a variety of different backgrounds.

The School Governing body are responsible for the plans, policies and procedures within the school and the main responsibilities include;

    • Setting strategic direction, objectives and targets for the school.

    • Reviewing progress against the budget, plans and targets.

    • Approving the school budget.

    • Acting as a critical friend to the head teacher by providing support and challenge.

    • Appointing the head teacher.

There are a broad range of Governors including Parent Governors, elected by the parents attending the school, Community Governors, nominated by the governing body as a whole and Local Education Authority Governors nominated by the LEA and Staff Governors.  The Headteacher is also a member of the Governing Body. As a Governing Body, we bring a variety of different experiences to the school, so although only a few are educational specialists we can, hopefully, contribute usefully to the running of the school. Many of the Governors also have children at the school!

The full Governing Body meet twice a term with other meetings of the finance, buildings and other committees as required.  Minutes of the latest full Governing Body meeting are available at the link at the bottom of this page.  Many of us work elsewhere, but when possible we also undertake school visits to see staff and children at work and to take part ourselves in the full and varied opportunities on offer at the school.

You may well se40050e us at sports days, performances, parents' evenings or at the Summer Fair.  Please feel free to stop us and ask any questions about what we do.

The Chair of the Governing Body can be contacted via the school office. Parent Governors are happy to be approached in the ‘playground’ if required.
